School Board Experience
Elected for 2 consecutive terms, I am in my 8th year on the Waconia School Board and have served as the Board Chair for the past 6 years. I have experienced many challenges on the board during my tenure and have risen to the occasion in each instance. A few examples I have helped lead, develop and/or establish:
Hiring of a new superintendent utilizing MSBA (Minnesota School Boards Association) resources.
Navigating a budget crisis:
District went into SOD in 2018 – budget shortfall was in excess of $6.4 million
After a new administration team was hired (2022) and budget balancing efforts including $4.5 million in cuts (2023), expected SOD reversal in FY 2024-2025.
Passage of 2 referendums; 2020 ($2 million) and 2018 ($2.4 million).
A comprehensive board handbook and board agenda calendar to establish consistency for board members.
A new superintendent evaluation process following the MSBA model.
Consistent board training and onboarding process for new members.
Revised student board representative election process.
Strategic planning for establishing Mission, Vision & Goals – 2018, revised 2024 for 2024-2028.
Along with serving as the board chair, I have participated in several key committees:
Negotiations team during SOD for the district – 2023, 2021 and 2019
Policy and Finance – several years during my tenure on the board
Southwest Metro Intermediate District 288 board member – 2023, 2024
Hiring of a new Superintendent (2024)
